Netball Update

We are currently half way through the season and it is so great to see so many players making huge progress with their netball skills. So far Kapanui have shown great team work both at practices and games. Especially our future ferns teams. Remember if you are a shooter to keep shooting those goals in your own time.
Here is a photo of our Thunderbirds team. They are looking like a real team :) Supportive and having fun. That's what it is all about.

Irene Van Dyk Visit

On Friday the 6th June Irene Van Dyk came to visit the Kapanui School Netballers. In our opinion we think that Irene is the most amazing netball player to ever play for New Zealand. She holds records for the most outstanding shooting statisitcs in New Zealand.

Irene was born in South Africa. She didn't start playing netball until she 15 years old. She never made a rep team until she left high school. She taught us to keep trying even if we dont make the best team.

Irene came to NZ with her family to play for the Capital Shakers in Wellington. She soon began playing for our country at International Level. Her favourite game was the finals of the Commonwealth games in 2010 when the game went into overtime twice. They won the gold medal for NZ.

Irene was an inspirational speaker. She made us laugh so much. She taught us new drills in groups outside and even signed our balls, tops and shoes!

We love Irene :)

School vs School Touch Tournament

Earlier in the year we went to the School vs School Touch Tournament at Mazengarb park. A number of teams took part from our School from the year 1s to year 7s.
First we had a warmup training for about 20minutes to get to know everyone from the Kapanui Teams. Our first was against Kapiti School and we won 10 - 0. We then had another break and practiced our passing to test our skills. Our next game was against Raumati Beach and sadly we lost 5-1. Our game against Raumati South was 8-0 to us. Waikanae School bet us 12-4. Our last game was against another Waikanae School team and we won 7-3.

We loved the tournament and enjoyed meeting new players from the other schools. Thank you to our coaches for taking us and supporting us.
